Mercedes-Benz W204 C280 | Sunset Snapshots

Flag GermanySunset Snapshots

After leaving my office and clocking out, I decided to go for a little sunset drive before heading home. I didn’t have any camera equipment with me – just my mobile phone, a Samsung Galaxy S5 2017.

Mercedes-Benz W201 190E 23-16 Vorserie | Drive-by Snapshots by Sebastian Motsch (2014)

Barn find | Mercedes-Benz W201 2.3-16 Vorserie (pre-series)

Flag GermanyWhich old car enthusiast has never dreamed of a barn find? How would it be to open the gate to an old garage and finding something long forgotten? Just imagine seeing the dust of decades dancing in the early morning light and inhaling the dry air.

Well the days of finding a classic car by chance are over, because most garages and barns have been treasure hunted already and are empty now. Today treasure hunting is more of a virtual game, as we are trying to find beautiful bargains that only had one caring owner, super low mileage and a full service history with all the dealer stamps in the right places. On top of that, a folder containing all the invoices is more than welcome and considered the icing on the cake.

Volkswagen Käfer Cabrio | Drive-by Snapshots by Sebastian Motsch (2014)

Volkswagen Käfer Cabrio | Fasten your seat belts!

Flag GermanyMy friend Gerd and his wife Claudia started the drop-top season rather late this year. After collecting the Volkswagen Beetle convertible from storage and giving it a good wash, we decided to quickly snap a few pictures before officially starting the season.

Peugeot 504 Golden Brown | Drive-by Snapshots by Sebastian Motsch (2012)

Sleeping Beauties | Golden Brown

Frequent readers know that most posts here at Drive-by Snapshots feature multiple pictures of a certain subject, most often accompanied by a little story. However, my archives are brimming with those lonely single pictures. Until recently I wasn’t really sure how to post them without boring you. A post containing one picture just isn’t really going to cut it. Last week, a good friend of mine had a great idea and suggested that I could group them for posts. While digging through the archives, I actually found many pictures that have something in common: a matching background, color or theme. Today, Drive-by Snapshots presents: three sleeping beauties – golden brown.

BMW 850i Z850 | Drive-by Snapshots by Sebastian Motsch (2012)

BMW 850i | Something unusual

Flag GermanySometimes you walk around a corner without expecting anything unusual. And… bam! There it was, sitting in the middle of the Nürburgring paddock at a VLN race weekend. Most people actually walked by without noticing that there was something wrong with it different and unusual about it. The base was clearly identifiable as a BMW 850i. It looked like somebody had a couple of leftover Z8 parts in the workshop and grafted them onto the E31 body. The craftsmanship and execution are excellent, but the style is, as always, a matter of taste…

Volkswagen T2b Emotions | Drive-by Snapshots by Sebastian Motsch (2012)

Volkswagen T2b | Emotions

Flag GermanyThe title says it all. This post is about emotions. The Volkswagen T2b pictured here sparks many of them, quite literally. These vehicles are just so positively sympathetic, you couldn’t force the smile off your face – even if you wanted to. Not smiling isn’t an option due to friendly feelings, friendly people and friendly encounters. Slowly (as they are) but surely, the classic  VW campers creep into your heart. You just want to pet them, as the sign in the opening pictures suggests 🙂

Volkswagen Beetle Pick-up | Drive-by Snapshots by Sebastian Motsch (2011)

Volkswagen Käfer Pickup

Flag GermanyWhile hunting for a project car, I found this excellently crafted Volkswagen Beetle Pickup. The vehicle belongs to the Hagenauer body & paint shop in Würzburg. The split rear windows are a nice touch, but the rear bumper and lights leave something to be desired. They could have created something that suits the overall appearance of the Beetle Pick-up better. But that’s complaining at a high level 😉

Borgward B611 | Drive-by Snapshots by Sebastian Motsch (2009)

Borgward B611 | Long extinct – but not forgotten

Flag GermanyBorgward produced quite a few technically interesting vehicles in the 1950’s but was forced into bankruptcy in 1961. The Borgward B 611 I found in Bremen represents a company that unfortunately is long extinct. However, the brand is still loyally supported by enthusiasts from the (e.g.) Borgward IG and the Borgward Club Bremen. The van featured here looks like it was properly restored at one stage and painted in period-correct colors. Sun visors have been popular accessories back then, available in various sizes and colors.

DeTomas Pantera | Drive-by Snapshots by Sebastian Motsch (2007)

DeTomaso Pantera | Close to perfection

Flag GermanyThe DeTomaso Pantera is a car that will always have a special place in my heart. I fell in love with this elegant but somewhat brute supercar when living in the US. Our neighbor had a yellow Pantera with a stroked liter V8 engine, based on a Ford FE Marine(!) block. Visiting the 2007 Jim Clark Revival, I found the Perfect Pantera. It just has the perfect stance and is equipped with a beautiful set off multi-piece BBS wheels. The body has been tastefully modified, retaining the clean lines of the original design – albeit accentuated perfectly.
