Ford Cortina MK1 Norway 2014 | Drive-by Snapshots by Sebastian Motsch (2014)

Ford Cortina GT | Spotted in Norway

Flag NorwayThe pace on Norwegian roads is slow. You have plenty of time to look around while driving – which slows you down even more. But as long as the reason for traveling at such a snails’ pace is such a clean Ford Cortina Mk1 GT… we don’t mind at all. Having a smile on our faces was well worth the taking a little break. So, as you would expect, we stopped and took a couple of pictures. Enjoy!

FIAT Panda Mk1 Véhicule sans permis | Drive-by Snapshots by Sebastian Motsch (2014)

FIAT Panda Mk1 | The story is often hidden in the details

Flag FranceAll of you have have been in this situation before: a long distance, cross-country journey by car. If you happen to be driving through France, make sure to stay away from the Autoroute and use the Route Nationale instead. I bet you – it will never be boring! Driving home from the 24 Heures du Mans, we stopped at a red traffic light in Sedan (Ardennes), not far from the border to Belgium. The low sun cast an interesting shadow on the wall, in front of which a FIAT Panda was parked on the sidewalk. Not really interesting, you think? Well look closely, and you will see what instantly hit me.

Honda Accord SJ Beirut Lebanon | Drive-by Snapshots by Hanna (2013)

Honda Accord Mk1 | A true survivor

Flag LebanonAs promised in the last post, Drive-by Snapshots now features a guest blog. My dear friend Hanna currently lives in Beirut / Lebanon and found this Honda Accord Mk1. She likes my idea of blogging about (often overlooked) daily drivers and survivors. A survivor? Yes – if it was imported to the Lebanon when new. Back then in the late 70’s / early 80’s, the civil war was in full swing. When the war ended in 1990, this first generation Accord was already 20 years old! OK, we’ll probably never figure out if the car was actually imported later, but it certainly looks like it has seen a rough day or two in its’ life.

Cars parked under trees in South Africa

Flag South AfricaSometimes, coincidences are funny. While finishing this blog post for publication, a friend sent me a link to an article over at speedhunters.com. Keith Charvonia wrote a great piece about finding project cars in the local neighborhoods of Tuscon, Arizona. I really love the article, because it described exactly what I’ve been doing for the last decade and a half: taking pictures of cars found along the roadside, without actually getting out of the car. Here is what I found during a one-week trip in South Africa. Albeit shot in various locations, all the pictures have one thing in common: the cars are parked under a tree.

Mini Mk1 | A Mini with a mini-me trailer

Flag FranceWhen you least think of it, something out of the ordinary happens. One day in March 2010 we went across the Rhine River to do some shopping in France. As we step out of the Super U we find this lovely little Mini Mk1, complete with a matching trailer. Cute, isn’t it?

dbs Ford Transit Mk1 camper van | Drive-by Snapshots by Sebastian Motsch (2009)

Ford Transit Mk1 | Forwards ever – backwards never!

Flag FranceThere are a number of songs with that or very similar titles that instantly came to my mind while sorting pictures from a 2009 trip to the French Atlantic coast. We spotted this Ford Transit Mk1 camper van in Hossegor. Looking forward is aided by a classic roof mounted spotlight and a set of (not really period-correct) Hella Micro FF fog lights… while looking backwards isn’t really that easy with a missing rear-view mirror. Unfortunately, I didn’t have a chance to speak to the owner if this beautiful camper was in original condition or if it has been restored.
